A couple of weeks ago I received an email from Faber-Castell to announce the Graf von Faber Castell Pen of the Year for 2019.  When I saw the pen, named the Samurai, I was blown away by its beauty and story. The pen pays tribute to the medieval Japanese

warriors who eventually became of the highest ranking social caste of the Edo Period (1603-1867). While Samurai warriors used a host of weapons, they were most known for the use of the sword which proved to be their main weapon. In the spirit of this tribute,  Graf von Faber Castell Pen of the Year for 2019 elected to make two different pens, the Samurai Pen of the Year has a dark barrel made of  stained and polished magnolia wood which is polished to a high sheen with Japanese writing emblazoned with the Japanese characters which translates into “Today I win against myself of yesterday.”  The pen is a piston filler and has a is ruthenium-coated 18-karat gold nib. The cost of the Graf von Faber Castell Pen of the Year for 2019 is limited to 400 units and is available for $3900 dollars. There is another edition of this release called the which sells for $5400 which is a piston filler and has a ruthenium-coated 18-karat gold nib. This edition is limited to 330 pieces.
