I hope you are having a great summer! With July coming to a screeching halt and August around the corner, Back to School is not far away. When thinking about Back to School, thoughts about shopping for school supplies are not far behind. As a kid, I relished going to my local store to pick out new notebooks, pens, and supplies. For many students across the United States, whose parents struggle financially, it is often hard to take their children shopping for new school supplies. Working closely with schools, I am certainly aware that many teachers are spending a great deal of their own money to provide their students with the supplies they need. Thinking about all the children and teachers in New Jersey that need school supplies, I decided to do something about it. Running a small pen shop in Chester NJ, it got me thinking about how I could help out. With this in mind, The PenThing will be collecting donations of pens, paper, pencils, erasers, and other school supplies that you can drop off at the store through the end of August. Working with Jersey Cares, we will deliver the donated school supplies to needy schools. In return for your caring and generosity, The PenThing will provide you with a 10% discount on all products in the shop through the end of August. So now is a great time to go into the big box stores and buy up those advertised specials that you can donate to students and schools! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or give me a call.

While I was attending the 2018 National Stationery Show, looking for new products, I came across some unique notebooks from Filofax that caught my eye. The first notebook that caught my eye was the Saffiano Metallic A5 Notebooks with their beautifully designed metallic covers. Once I opened up the notebook there, I was taken by the paper quality and the ability to remove and re-insert the page anywhere In the notebook that I wanted to place it. The notebook comes with lined pages and separators that let you customize the notebook. You can also purchase Dot Grid, Plain, and Graph Paper refills to flesh out your note taking system.
If your needs require a smaller notebook then you can take a look at the Filofax Classic Pastels Pocket Notebook, which has the same features of the Saffiano Metallic A5. The paper works well with a variety of different pen types and I found it worked well with fountain pens-thought you may get a little bleed through with broader or wetter nibs.
So come into The PenThing and check out the new Filofax Notebooks, I’m sure you will like them!
